The All Over Print: A year in the life of Humbles™

All over prints have become one of the most recognizable parts of the Humbles™ studio experience. They look like the kind of test tees you might find in the scrap pile at your local print shop, but ours are designed with intention. Instead of being accidental or the result of mistakes, these shirts are created slowly, deliberately, and thoughtfully over time.

At Humbles™, we keep our operation tight. We work small, we work by hand, and we aim for low to no waste. A lot of print shops end up with stacks of overstock, misprints, or shirts that get tossed aside. We wanted a different relationship with the process. Every print pass has value. Every leftover hit, every unused graphic, every color choice can become raw material for something unique. The all over prints came from that mindset. They are our way of turning parts of the studio’s creative life into a wearable archive.

A Year in the Making

The all over prints you see in this Black Friday drop were not made in a single session or rushed in a week. They were built slowly throughout the year. During our made to order live sessions, while printing customer orders one by one, we set aside moments, layouts, and layers that felt interesting. Instead of discarding these elements or letting them sit on a shelf, we added them onto designated blanks that lived in the studio.

Each time we ran the press, these shirts were nearby. When the timing felt right and the artwork matched the flow of the day, we would add another layer to one of the developing pieces. Sometimes that meant a graphic from a Ritual print day. Other times it was a layout from a flash sheet, a color we wanted to try, or a design that didn’t make it into a full collection. Every pass contributed to a shirt that grew in character over time.

By the time we reached the end of the cycle, each shirt carried a story. Not a planned narrative, but an authentic timeline of the studio’s work. What makes them special is how they show the natural rhythm of a year spent making by hand.

Curated, Not Chaotic

Although the aesthetic nods to the randomness of real test tees, our all over prints are not chaotic or accidental. They are curated. Every print added is chosen on purpose. We think about balance, color movement, the way shapes interact, and how the shirt will feel when worn. It is closer to assembling a collage than throwing ink around.

Because each garment is hand dyed before printing, the color of the base shirt also plays into the final result. Dye patterns guide the placement of certain graphics. Some colors pull the artwork forward, others push it deeper into the layered look. The finished pieces feel lived in, but not worn out. They look experimental without being sloppy. They are controlled chaos, shaped by hand.

How the Goose Collection Fits In

This year’s Black Friday release includes a featured Goose all over print, created exclusively for the event. Earlier in the year, we accidentally overprinted several Rock the Pink tees during production. Rather than setting them aside or treating them like extras, we saw an opportunity to turn them into something worth keeping. We hand dyed the blanks, added curated layers from the Goose artwork, and made them into finished pieces that feel intentional from start to finish. These shirts are a great fit for Goose collectors and for anyone who wants to support the American Cancer Society.

They follow the same thoughtful approach as the Humbles™ all over prints, but the story behind them gives them a different weight. They did not come from planned production. They came from a moment in the studio that could have ended in waste but instead grew into something meaningful.

Why Collectors Pay Attention

Collectors come back to these pieces year after year because they cannot be repeated. There is no way to recreate the exact timing, mood, or sequence of the prints that developed across the months. You cannot reprint a moment.

These shirts stand on their own. They feel like studio artifacts. For some people, they are the most honest version of what we do at Humbles™. They show the work, the experimentation, the hands-on decisions, and the rhythm of real printmaking.

Every all over print is a true one-off, made slowly, curated with intention, and tied to the year it was made.

As we head into the Black Friday drop, these pieces anchor the collection. They represent everything we believe in: craft, patience, creativity, and the choice to make something original instead of throwing something away.

FAQ

What is an all over print? An all over print is a shirt layered with multiple curated graphics placed across the entire garment. Ours are made slowly over time, using intentional artwork and hand dyed blanks to create a true one-of-one piece.

Are these actual test tees? No. They are inspired by the look of real print shop test tees but are created with purpose. Every layer is chosen intentionally, not randomly.

How long does it take to make an all over print? Most are built over months. We add layers during different print sessions throughout the year, letting each shirt develop naturally.

What makes each piece one of a kind? Every shirt is hand dyed and printed in a unique sequence that cannot be repeated. The timing, artwork, and layering are specific to each garment.

What is the Goose all over print? The Goose pieces come from a small batch of Rock the Pink tees that were overprinted early in the year. We reworked them with hand dye and Goose graphics to create one-of-a-kind shirts that support the American Cancer Society.

Will these ever restock? No. Each one is a true one-off. Once a piece sells, it is gone permanently.

How limited is the Black Friday drop? Extremely limited. All items in the collection are either one-of-one or part of very small batches.

Where can I shop the collection? You can find the full Black Friday release on the Humbles™ website.
