"bicycle day" collection
"Bicycle Day" commemorates the day when Swiss chemist Albert Hofmann intentionally ingested LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) for the first time on April 19, 1943. This event marked the discovery of LSD's psychoactive effects.
Hofmann had synthesized LSD-25 while researching lysergic acid derivatives at Sandoz Laboratories (now Novartis) in Basel, Switzerland. He accidentally absorbed a small amount of the substance through his fingertips during a routine synthesis process on April 16, 1943, experiencing unusual sensations and hallucinations. Three days later, he decided to deliberately ingest 250 micrograms of LSD to understand its effects better, which he did while riding his bicycle home from the laboratory.
As Hofmann's trip intensified, he experienced vivid hallucinations and intense alterations in perception, which he later described as a profound and transformative experience. Despite initially fearing for his life during the onset of the effects, he eventually realized the potential therapeutic and psychiatric applications of LSD.
Bicycle Day has since become a symbolic celebration among psychedelic enthusiasts and researchers, commemorating not only the accidental discovery of LSD but also the potential of psychedelics to expand consciousness and inspire scientific inquiry. It serves as a reminder of the pivotal role that serendipity and scientific curiosity can play in advancing human knowledge and understanding.
Once again we are acknowledging this life altering discovery with our good friends at Good Trip Studios, the creators of the very popular "Have A Good Trip, Adventures in Psychedelics" movie. Can't wait to see what they put out next!
